About the artist

Ryan Mrozowski

Ryan Mrozowski (born 1981) is an American painter whose work explores optics, repetition, and the ways in which we experience patterns through depictions of nature. Mrozowski starts off with recognizable subject matter- citrus tree flowers, oranges, and other foliage- and transforms them through his visual language that pulls on the seriality and repetition found in nature. Additionally, Mrozowski uses natural imagery to juxtapose the artificial interjections he makes as artist of the works, such as cropping, layering, along with cutting and pasting. Through these interventions and decisions, the imagery in his art goes from quotidien and ordinary to creating a complex visual narrative and language.

Mrozowski received his BFA from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania and his MFA from the Pratt Institute in 2005.
